Community

Mark Hughes Foundation

As long-time Newcastle supporters, NextGen has proudly supported the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) since its inception and their annual ‘Beanie for Brain Cancer’ campaign.

Former Newcastle Knights NRL player Mark and his wife Kirralee began the foundation in 2014, after Mark was diagnosed with brain cancer and realising how underfunded brain cancer was in Australia in comparison to other cancers. MHF raises awareness and funds for brain cancer research and provides support to patients and their families affected by the disease. Their beanie campaign is now a nationally recognised fundraiser which our staff are proud to get behind each year.

Multiple Sclerosis Research

NextGen proudly supports MS Australia, the national body for multiple sclerosis. All funds raised contribute to programs that aim to raise awareness and improve the quality of life for people with Multiple Sclerosis across the country. MS Australia campaigns about important issues on behalf of the community of people with MS by working closely with state societies, national advocates and MS Research Australia.

Jersey Day

In 2015 Nathan Gremmo was critically injured in an accident at age 13. His family chose to donate his organs to honour Nathan’s generous personality. Through Nathan’s legacy, his family established ‘Jersey Day’ in 2016 to provide ongoing awareness of the DonateLife network.

NextGen began their support for Jersey Day in 2018 after learning of staff with family members who had received the gift of life through organ donation. On this special day each year, our staff leave their corporate attire at home and wear their favourite sports jersey to work! Most importantly, the day reminds us to have a conversation with friends and family about organ and tissue donation – whether to know their donation decision or encourage others to join the Australian Organ Donor Register.
