Our people make NextGen

At NextGen we pride ourselves on harnessing our diversity. Our people come from various backgrounds and experiences, and we all have different compositions of skills and work style preferences.

Every one of those differences help shape who we are and enhance a culture of support, growth and balance.

Think You Know NextGen?

Test your assumptions about working at Australia's leading lending technology company

Question 1 of 14

NextGen is a startup that's been around for less than 5 years

False! NextGen has been established for over 30 years and is considered the industry standard in Australian lending technology.

Most of NextGen's clients are big banks

False! While we work with 60+ lenders, our client base includes credit unions, building societies, non-bank lenders, and ALL Australian mortgage brokers - not just the big four banks.

NextGen prioritises rapid feature deployment over extensive security testing

False! Security is paramount in everything we do. There is, however, always a balance to be struck to ensure our customers get what they need as efficiently as possible, which is why we've implemented robust DevSecOps practices that integrate security testing throughout our development pipeline.

NextGen's culture is primarily work-focused with limited social activities or team events

False! We're actually very social! We host monthly social events and several big annual events where we bring the whole team together for family days and cricket days. Building strong relationships and having fun together is a core part of our culture.

As a B2B company, NextGen rarely interacts with end consumers

False! While our direct clients are lenders and brokers, our platform processes applications from everyday Australians buying homes, so consumer impact is direct.

Fintech companies have a "work hard, play hard" culture with long hours

False! We specifically focus on support, growth and balance in our culture. Our Glassdoor reviews rate us 4.4/5 for work-life balance - well above industry average.

Working at NextGen means wearing suits and ties in a traditional corporate environment

False! We have a friendly, casual and open culture - no suits required! Our office is even described as instagrammable rather than corporate.

NextGen only uses legacy technology because they're in lending

False! While our platform has evolved over many years as a market leader in lending technology, we use a diverse mix of modern and established technologies across our products. This includes the latest JavaScript frameworks, containerisation with Kubernetes, and other industry-leading innovations that keep us at the forefront of lending technology.

Career advancement at NextGen is slow because it's an established, mature company

False! We have a culture of ongoing growth and development. We run our staff development cycles every 6 months to ensure growth stays front of mind, we're passionate about internal mobility opportunities, and invest in continuous learning through conferences, training, and skill development initiatives.

Remote work isn't possible at NextGen because of compliance requirements

False! Our hybrid work policy is designed to ensure that, based on how success is defined for your role, you will have the opportunity to create a balance that enables true work-life integration.

NextGen's 30-year history means they're resistant to new ideas and innovation

False! NextGen is an innovator that is an early adopter of tools or technology that will increase value for our customers and reduce "time to yes". A recent example of this is being at the forefront of educating, maturing, and embedding open banking technology in the finance industry.

All roles require extensive lending industry experience

False! While domain expertise is taken into consideration, we value diverse backgrounds and different compositions of skills. Industry knowledge can be learned!

NextGen requires longer working hours during month-end and quarter-end periods

False! A deeply ingrained tenet of working at NextGen is respect for balance and a family focus. When we work, we work hard together. But taking time to rest, switch off and get ready for the next day is equally important. We plan our workflows to avoid crunch periods and maintain sustainable work practices year-round.

Does NextGen own Frollo?

True! NextGen completed the acquisition of Frollo in 2020 just in time for the genesis of the open banking industry with the launch of the CDR regulation in July 2020.
