One Piece of Advice Series – Adrian Dharma, Creative Lead

Our One Piece of Advice series asks leaders across the business one simple question: what is the single best piece of advice you have ever received? This time we spoke with Adrian Dharma, Creative Lead at NextGen.

The question: what advice helped you master your daily workflow, protect your time, or maintain a healthy balance between work and life?

For Adrian, the breakthrough came from a piece of advice that flipped how he handles a heavy workload: instead of trying to carry the weight of an entire project or day all at once, you have to break it apart and clear out the mental clutter.

Here are the two core practices Adrian uses to put that advice into action every day:

1. Master Task Compartmentalisation

“When you’re able to organize tasks into little compartments that you can tackle one by one, it becomes more manageable.”

When facing a massive workload, Adrian has found compartmentalising his focus into distinct, small blocks and tackling them one by one allows him to concentrate more fully and engage in deep work   whilst preventing the rest of his  to-do list from encroaching and distracting him from what he is trying to accomplish at any given moment.

2. Beat Overwhelm with the “Brain Dump”

“When things get overwhelming, braindump it. AI can help you keep notes and to-do lists to make things more manageable.”

We’ve all had those days where everything hits at once and your head feels completely full. Adrian’s go-to strategy for a reset is a brain dump. Rather than spend energy trying to hold all his loose thoughts, deadlines, and reminders at once, Adrian leverages AI tools to instantly sort those raw notes and structure his priorities, bringing immediate clarity back to the chaos.
